Audit Checklist

1. Initial Setup

Tool: Ahrefs

  • Plug website into Ahrefs for a complete crawl.


2. First Impressions

Tool: SEO Pro Extension

  • Click through website to get feel for content, overall site structure, and web design

  • Analyze the formatting for H1s, H2s, H3s, meta titles & descriptions

  • Document word count for core pages

3. Keyword Analysis Spreadsheet

Tool: Excel

  • Identify low-hanging fruit (keywords ranking in positions 11-15).

  • Research keywords that organic competitors rank for, but we do not.

  • Document search volume (SV) for services in the company’s target areas.

4. Technical SEO Review

Tool: PageSpeed Insights

  • Include screenshots of performance scores for both desktop and mobile.

  • Include core web vitals assessment screenshots.

  • Document any notable poor performance metrics.

5. Ahrefs Analysis

Tool: Ahrefs

  • Note DR rating, how does it compare to organic competitors

  • Analyze backlink quality and which way the numbers have been moving

  • Document amount of KW in positions (1-3), (4-10), (11-20)

  • Look at top trafficked pages for the website (note if the pages are blog heavy or service heavy)

  • Research how many pages on the website receive 0 traffic at all (big indicator of quality of content or lack of seo tactics)

  • Organic traffic ranking over the past year
